$500 First Prize, Winning Dessert on Eatonville Restaurant Menu, $250 Gift Card from King Arthur Flour, Consultation with Operation: Eatery Among the Prizes for Best Pie in the DMV

(Washington, DC) The 3rd Makes-Me-Wanna SHOUT! Baking Challenge™ is baking and making memories while building community around food. The contest is accepting entries for its first Pie Baking Challenge, open to passionate amateur bakers ages 18 years and up residing in the Washington DC metropolitan area. First prize is $500, the winning cake on the Eatonville Restaurant (www.eatonvillerestaurant.com) dessert menu, a $250 Gift Card for purchases on the King Arthur Flour (www.kingarthurflour.com) online catalogue, and 3 hours of business strategy consulting services from Operation: Eatery (www.operationeatery.com) to get a baking business started on the right foot.

Entry form is online at www.shoutbakingchallenge.com and must be received by February 4, 2013. (Mailed entries must be postmarked February 4, 2013 and received by February 6, 2013 – P.O. Box 21204, Washington, DC 20009)

Up to 12 entries will be selected for the semi-finals tasting and judging March 23, 2013 at Martha’s Table. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Martha’s Table (www.marthastable.og), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk children, youth, families and individuals in the DC community improve their lives by providing educational programs, food, clothing and enrichment opportunities.

Past winners of the Makes-Me-Wanna SHOUT! Baking Challenge include green energy analyst Austin Brown of Washington, DC (2012), who took the blue ribbon for his Chocolate Trio Cake in the Chocolate Layer Cake Challenge. Austin is featured in King Arthur Flour’s (KAF) recent “Cake Baking Essentials” DVD and “Baking Sheet” newsletter. Law firm receptionist Decoyise Brown, of Waldorf, MD, was the winner of the first baking challenge for her Coconut Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting and Fresh Coconut. Decoyise and her coconut cake recipe was featured in a Washington Post Food article (“The Cake Whisperer” by Bonnie Benwick), and a demonstration at Macy’s department store. Both desserts are currently available on the Eatonville Restaurant dessert menu; both are best sellers.

The 2013 Makes-Me-Wanna SHOUT! Baking Pie Baking Challenge is co-presented with Eatonville Restaurant and produced by Michon Boston Group Ltd.
